A 66-YEAR OLD TRADITION TO CELEBRATE CUB SCOUTING
The Blue and Gold banquet is one of the highlights of our program year, bringing
together our families for dinner and an evening of fun. The meal is important, but
even more important is the warm, congenial atmosphere created as families enjoy
each other's company. At this event, our Scouts will receive the Rank Badge they
have been working on throughout the year.
The theme this year is “Route 66: Road to Adventure,” which recognizes the 66th
anniversary of the Blue and Gold Banquet. It began in 1933 as a Parent/Cub dinner.
Soon thereafter, Pack 1 of Michigan City started a tradition of pot-luck dinners
where the dads brought utensils made of wood whittled by Cubs and their dads.
Finally, in 1943 the name "Blue and Gold Banquet" appeared in BSA literature and
has become synonymous with celebrating the birthday of Scouting.
